General Information

Wichita State University's School of performing Arts awards dance and theatre scholarships to students who qualify by audition. Additional scholarships   are available for qualifying junior and senior performing arts majors. Interested high school and community college students or transfer students should plan to visit the campus. While on campus, students may audition, meet performing arts faculty, visit dance and/or theatre classes, obtain financial advising and career counseling.

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS

At the end of the Academic Year the faculty considers all Theatre Majors for scholarships in addition to the Selma Miller Theatre Scholarships and reviews the eligibility of each student. Outstanding students are then selected to receive additional scholarships for the following year. These are announced at the Annual Theatre Awards Banquet.

 

The George Wilner Scholarship

Awarded to outstanding students enrolled in the School of Performing Arts in Theatre. Junior standing with a G.P.A. of 2.5.

Applicants requirements:

  1. Have Junior standing (student will have completed 90 hours by the end of the semester the award is given.)
  2. Have made outstanding contributions to the theatre over a 4 semester involvement.
  3. Show evidence of leadership.
  4. Have a 2.5 academic average.

 

June M. Lair Endowment for the Arts

Awards given annually. For a Junior student enrolled in the School of Performing Arts in Theatre. The prerequisite for the recipient of the School of Performing Arts award is that the student must be active in Theatre.

Applicants requirements:

  1. Have completed 60 hours by the end of the semester the award is given.
  2. Must have a 2.5 academic average.
  3. Must have made an outstanding contribution to the Theatre program.

 

Juliaenne Weaver Masters Scholarship

Established by the friends of Juliaenne Weaver Masters who devoted much of her life to theatre.

Scholarships will be awarded annually to students enrolled at The Wichita State University College of Fine Arts, Theatre Department. Recipients must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours of academic program. Awards will be made with regard to financial need. Scholarships shall be awarded for one academic year and may be renewed upon the recommendation of the faculty committee.

Applicants requirements:

  1. Standards of Miller Scholarship apply.
  2. Need is a dominant factor.

 

The Brett Neff Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded annually to a Junior or Senior student majoring in Theatre in the College of Fine Arts. Awards will be made according to merit without regard to financial need. The Scholarship may be renewed upon application as long as the student maintains a grade point average of 3.00 and good progress. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin.

Applicants requirements:

  1. Have Junior or Senior standing.
  2. Have a 3.0 academic average.
  3. Have made an outstanding contribution to the Theatre Program.

 

Audrey Needles Theatre Scholarship

The Audrey Needles Theatre Scholarship is awarded annually by the theatre faculty to a theatre major of advanced standing who is selected for an Internship at a Professional Theatre. The student must enroll for Internship credit, achieve and maintain a G.P.A. of 2.75 in the major and a 2.5 overall.

 

Mary Jane Teall Theatre Scholarship

Award given annually to a student majoring in theatre.

Requirements:

  1. Must have a 3.0 academic average.
  2. Consideration will be given to those theatre majors of highest abilities in theatre performance, education, production or direction.
  3. Merit and need will determine the award recipient.
  4. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin
  5. The scholarship will be renewed annually (until completion of the baccalaureate degree or four years, which ever comes first) upon application for renewal to the School of Performing Arts and continuing satisfaction of scholarship criteria for the students degree program.

 

Veryle Heriford Endowed Scholarships in Fine Arts

Scholarships are given annually to theatre majors:

  1. Awards will be based on merit and made without regard to financial need.
  2. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 G.P.A.
  3. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin.
  4. The scholarship will be renewed annually (until completion of the baccalaureate degree or four years, which ever comes first) upon application for renewal to the School of Performing Arts and continuing satisfaction of scholarship criteria for the students degree program.

 

Mildred (Mickey) McCoy Armstrong Endowment for Excellent in the Arts

  1. Awards will be based on merit in the arts and made without regard to financial need.
  2. Recipients must maintain a 3.0.
  3. Awards will be made to outstanding achievers.
  4. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin.

 

Eleanor Doty Clair Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Eleanor Doty Clair Scholarship has been established with the following regulations and procedures:

  1. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a drama student
  2. enrolled full-time at WSU in the School of Performing Arts.
  3. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin.
  4. Awards will be made with regard to financial need and successful audition.
  5. The scholarship will be renewed annually (until completion of the baccalaureate degree or four years, which ever comes first) upon application for renewal to the School of Performing Arts and continuing satisfaction of scholarship criteria for the students degree program.

 

Iren Wedding Hutcheson Theatre Scholarship

The Irene Wedding Hutcheson Memorial Scholarship Fund in Theatre has been established in loving memory of Irene Wedding Hutcheson with an annual contribution to the Wichita State University Endowment Association.

  1. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a theatre major
  2. enrolled full-time at WSU in the School of Performing Arts.
  3. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin.
  4. Awards will be given to students who demonstrate outstanding work in theatre.
  5. Awards will be given to a junior or senior based on merit.
  6. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

 

Richard Welsbacher Theatre Scholarship

The Richard Welsbacher Theatre Scholarship is being established to honor Dr. Welsbacher for his outstanding leadership as Director of Theatre at Wichita State for 30 years and his exemplary accomplishments as an educator, director, and actor. Contributions should be sent to the Wichita State University Endowment Association.

  1. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a theatre major
  2. Enrolled full-time at WSU in the School of Performing Arts.
  3. Selection of recipients will be made without regard to race, color, sex, religion or national origin.
  4. Awards will be given to students who demonstrate outstanding work in theatre.
  5. Awards will be given to a junior or senior based on merit.
  6. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.


Selma Miller & City Dance Scholarships

Dance scholarships are awarded to students who qualify by audition. Auditions will require a demonstrated proficiency in at least two of the three dance techniques: modern, jazz, and ballet technique. Scholarships range from $500 to about $1200 per year and are renewable.

Requirements:

  1. Recipients must be dance majors.
  2. Must be full-time students registered for a minimum of 12 hours.
  3. Must enroll in a minimum of 6 hours of dance courses each semester.
  4. Must maintain an overall G.P.A. of 2.75 and a G.P.A. of 3.0 within the dance curriculum.
  5. Must participate in Dance Program sponsored events.

 

Kim Stephans Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded annually to a currently enrolled dance major who has made an outstanding contribution to the dance program. Awards are to be based on merit and made without regard for financial need.
